“"This is a great site"”

Norma L.

This is a great site. Photography as art means a lot to us because when we see a photo like we see in it and have a lot of beautiful feelings It is difficult to photograph a landscape that you like but you must also know how to make him look good and somewhat naturally. The picture has a very important role in our life because through photo memories and all the photo we say and show how we really are

“Stay away!”

Stay away! I decided to upgrade from "awesome" to "pro" when only 3 months into my awesome sub. I the noticed that they've changed too many things in the pro tier, and wanted a refund. They did refund the charge for the upgrade, but me"awesome" account was deleted, and the USD 50 Value remaining in my "wesome" tier they kept in their pockets, and I now have a free account, even if I paid.

Joined 500px since 4 years now and this is related with my photographic growing interest though i make my living from video production,, last year i can feel the increasing decline of a great site due to the change of pulse algorithm, lack of customer support and no reason of paying memberships except unlimited uploads,, sentimental reasons keep me in the group but everyday is a disappointment even if i reach the top five of most popular categories,,

I've been a member on 500px for a while now and for some reason, I don't enjoy 500px as much as I used to. I feel like it's all about money now. Maybe it's just me but thought I'd put it out there.

I upgraded to an Awesome account on 500px after I had enjoyed browsing photography on the site. It took me a while to get round to attempting to upload any images of my own.

When I did attempt to upload images I found that the upload functionality is so unreliable that attempting to upload more than 3 images at once almost always results in some images failing to upload - they get stuck at "100%" and uploading is blocked. In one instance attempting to upload 20 images in one go resulted in 17 failures. It took me around 1 hour to upload 70 images. Uploading images should be straight forward and easy - it's a breeze with Flickr.

After uploading my images I realised that reordering he images in a gallery does not work. Some images simply refuse to be reordered by dragging and dropping - the only available mechanism - no matter how many times this is attempted.

I raised these issues with 500px support. They state they will respond within 2 days but after 4 days still no response. I then looked into Flickr instead and the user experience is far better - so much better that a comparison is meaningless. It would be like comparing eating excrement to a fine dining experience.

I decided to ask for my money back. At this point it had been 32 days since I upgraded my account as it had taken me a while to get round to using it. I received just a short response saying that I was over the 30 day grace period with absolutely no mentioned of the issues which I had been experiencing. Clearly they do not care about the quality of the product they are offering and the customer service. Avoid at all costs.

This company made it very difficult for me to cancel and ended up fighting me over a year subscription paid in advance that I had tried several times to cancel. They claim they had sent a 7 day reminder before the renewal but that never happened. Nothing in my spam folder also. Never doing business with this company again.

I'm unable to use the absolute most basic functionality this site claims to provide such as creating "galleries" (their version of albums), modifying photo permissions etc. Avoid this platform at all costs and just go with something better like Flickr.

Gone downhill... software frequently is broken and new software is introduced with miminal or no beta testing,... customer service almost non existant and extremely slow... new agreement with Getty and Getty China results in photos being sold for a few cents.
Recently I had several photo sales on Getty via 500px for amounts as low as $US 0.07. Getty sells the photos for $US 50.00 and up for a profit of over 99%. This is insulting to me as a photographer and I will no longer submit anything to 500px for licensing. Shame that 500px has gotten so awful!

I contact them because two of my photos just disappear from my profile on 500px, and on top of that, one of that photo was my first editors' choice.
I send them email and they simply said that I delete my own photos which is not true and that they cant do anything about it.
Agent Dillon was really rude in our "conversation" just so everybody knows.

My recent experiences with 500px were completeiy disappointing.

In my opinion, the level of their customer service is much less than acceptable as good business practice. I am a professional photographer and recently had my paid subscription account deleted soon after payment. Of course, no refund was returned to me and my payment was simply lost. It makes me wonder how much revenue is generated in this way.

In addition, when I contacted their "customer service" unsubstantiated claims were made regarding my copyrighted, photographic, intellectual property. Two 500px employees claimed in writing, via email, that I posted other peoples photographs. This was neither communicated to me or substaintiated in any way. As a professional, I most certainly would never do this and find this claim appalling.

Again, in my humble opinion, be careful here. There are other excellent sites available that offer an overall far superior experience. The only basic value here is to subscribe to the free option. Good luck! And Good Photography!

Tip for consumers:
My opinion is that the only value here is the free subscription.

I have been with 500px for over 10 years and have made many fellow photographer friends and enjoyed the community spirit. Like others I have submitted some of my images for purchase through their partnership with Getty images. I have made some money out of it but having recently had one of my photos published in NPhoto, the Nikon only magazine, I felt really chuffed and optimistic about making a good sale. However, I had to wait, 5 months before I got paid a measly £0.23. I thought at first this was a mistake, as it was a 2 page spread and must have been a high resolution image. I contacted 500px several times who eventually got back to me and came up with some lame excuse that the money from this sale would have been a 3 way split and basically said this was the situation in the current climate in stock photo photography which was total nonsense. In a recent centre spread in Dorset Magazine I was paid well over £100 instantly once my invoice was sent. Clearly this is the way forward for me. I feel this company shows little consideration for the work of others with the effort photographers put into showcasing their work and I have now removed all my photos and cancelled my account. I have also been unhappy with the lack of support and consideration for the photographic community, which clearly seems to be an issue at the moment. I will also be writing to NPhoto about this situation, as I have been a long time user of this magazine and sure they would be interested in this. Shame on you 500px.

Good photographers, but they push to sell stock and have not sold $1 on my account. I do see they say a lot of sales are done, but still waiting to see on my account any action

I used to use 500px before, but since the Chinese took over it's not the same site anymore. I suggest that everyone think a second time before they share there photos within such a community

Auto renew was on my membership without my knowledge and I was charged. I asked for a refund on the membership I have not used but never got a reply. Under the consumer rights act everyone has 14 days to return something unused.

I am a boudoir photographer and some of my images contain nudity. They have two categories, Nude and Boudoir with thousands of images showing genitals but some how they determined that one of mine violated their terms of service and they immediately banned my account after many years of paid membership. One of my photos even won editors choice.

Don't be fooled and don't upload your content to a Chinese owned company.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. 500PX HAS NO ETHICAL STANDARDS.
I originally subscribed 500px for £37/year to try the pro-platform. I've never made any money of the photos I uploaded, neither made useful contacts, so I stopped using it. I wasn't aware of the auto-renewal, and a year later I received an email that my subscription has been renewed for £102!

I emailed them to cancel my renewal and to request the refund, but they denied it, claiming they sent an email of reminder 7 days prior of the renewal, however I DID NOT receive any email from them regarding the renewal, only marketing emails, and I'm not alone.

In this strange times of lockdown, most of us are out of work, with no prospect of work for the next 4-6 months. What 500px is doing is imoral and dishonest.

Nice pics from photograhers they abuse. Secretive system of scoring images, that leaves you wondering whats going on. Mostly a popularity contest with little regard for picture quality. Users with 100 followers compete with users with 200,000 followers. All with some secret voodu method of scoring likability of image. They control who sees your images, people cant like what they never see. Useless customer service.and so much more...

My experience on 500px started going south (was fun, until.). Every picture after awhile was automatically declined to marketplace. The idea was to sell photos. Everything declined with no explanation, started to aggravate me. I cancelled my subscription early. 19.99 for no return is not a good investment.

Lots of new features were added recently, some of which don't appear to work as expected. I get the impression that new features are not adequately tested before being rolled out. Some new features, such as automatic tagging is very inaccurate and is more of a hindrance than a help. Customer service is slow and on more than one occasion closed my query without resolving it. This is my experience of 500px which has been negative (just in recent times).

This is the most complicated and the customer service ineptitude is the worsts that I have ever experienced. Don't pay them, once you do, you will have 0 customer service. I'm not kidding, don't publish your hard earned art on this website, it's a joke. I'm SURE they pay others to rate your photos for "perks".

The site is excrutiating to deal with in regards to receiving payment from them when work is sold by them for licensing. There is an inordinate amount of wait time required before the photographer can request payment. My latest example: I was informed that a work of mine was licensed. I waited the obligatory time (I believe it was 45 days) prior to having the ability to request payment. Finally, I filled out a W9 form, requested payment and three weeks later I have still not received payment to my PayPal account. Numerous emails exchanged with their alleged customer service rep "Steph" and as I write this, it is three weeks since requesting payment and no payment has been received. They are simply not worth the aggravation versus the pittance that they pay photographers.

Yes it has nice photographs, and it is a pleasure to visit.
Are photographs sold and what is the experience?
The feedback is fluffy and cute and lacks the depth I have experienced on photosig.com (with all its limitations).
Is this site a show pony for the better photographers?
