Recently, scams such as "Run your car with water" have been showing up all over the place, driven by people's desperation to find a cheaper alternative to traditional gasoline. The E-Fuel 100 is probably not an immediate answer to this need, but it's an interesting idea and may provide a way to reduce the cost of gas in the longer term.
E-Fuel 100 is a machine you can buy for your home that converts sugar and ethanol yeast into ethanol that can be used in your car, mixed with normal gasoline. This is a neat idea and potentially could reduce the amount of gas required to drive your car. However, there are several problems:
1) the machine costs $10,000
2) it takes 10lbs to 14lbs of sugar to produce 1 gallon of ethanol. sugar costs around 25 cents per pound, so for a gallon of ethanol it would cost $2.50 to $3.00 using this machine. for a $10,000 machine that's not much savings (unless you made ethanol for your entire neighborhood...) unless the price of gas continues to rise.
3) no one is sure how much ethanol you should really put in your gas tank. something between 2-10% is probably the right number, but it's unclear what the long term affects of running normal cars on too much ethanol is.
Regardless, technologies like the E-Fuel 100 are an interesting look at the future of alternative energy in the US. Perhaps one day we will have neighborhood ethanol fueling stations...
In case anyone is wondering, this site and the product are legitimate. I'm not saying you should buy one, but it's a real company with real scientists and managers. You can listen to a report on it from NPR which provides some interesting criticisms:

Oh and one important distinction - this is SUGAR ethanol which is different than CORN ethanol. Sugar ethanol is generally considered to be more efficient and cleaner than corn ethanol. You can read more here:
