Forum spam
For some completely obscure reason to me,
SiteJabber forum is visited daily by spammers leaving unrelated replies in every-which topic,
bumping the thread's replied-to time, and making it look like the forums are all messed up, because when you read the thread updates, you don't actually see any, and in rare cases you'll get a glimpse of the spammer's message before it gets removed by support.
So my suggestion is to require at least one review posted, in-order to have access to the forum, in order to make the spammers work on their creative side, and make their lives harder =)
I am getting so fed up with scammers I was looking at flats to rent in Gumtree and a scammer was trying to get to rent a flat for £490.00 month but the photo,s he e-mailed well you would have to won the lottery to afford it he wanted upfront £1,500 cash what scammer I read an article a couple of days ago if you think it's to good to be true it telling you to just keep away and bee safe out there.
Oh ok, cool
Wait what?
Too funny, an unrealated comment to a thread. ahahahaha :D
Michael C - I salute you
Spam - Scam, it's all the same =)
Hi Ellis,
I do agree,
here it's not a real full featured forum, unfortunatly.
Sure i would be good to ban some !
I think we should change the tactics,
Mods should move all spam to the "Place your ad here thread"
And then we can review these sites, and give them all the deserved credit they need =)
Just like www.circuitsnthings.com...
There should be a "This is Spam/Scam" button on the review, comment, forum, and Q&A pages. If more than X number of users (with some Sitejabber history) click on the button, the offending post should be automatically removed and sent to a spam page. If the author of the post believes it is not spam, he would need to contact Sitejabber support to have his message reinstated.
Umm, I spend quite some time on this site,
and it seems that most spam coming in the posters already know what they are doing (spamming),
and mods seem to remove those posts fairly quickly - I don't think it's imperative to have such button,
since the moderation team responds very fast.
However I think such approach is too passive, and if mods would move such posts to a specific thread, where users can pick them up, and give up 3-5 minutes of their time to write up a sarcastic review, with an unrecommended rating, it would serve a better deterrent to continuous stream of spam SJ is receiving.
I really do not understand the reasoning behind such posts in the first place,
I have to attest these posts to lack of English or brains, but I see it as coming to your local police department to sell your stolen goods.
It's time to start "jailing" them
I also noticed that there is no "Captcha" or other OCR-Safe Turing verifications on the Post New Threat page. Perhaps it is something SJ devs should consider, it works fairly well - albeit a little annoying for real people.
I think site jabber should make spammer inputs invisible to the public and only visible to the spammer themselves. That way the spammer stays busy and unaware that their efforts are not effecting the community.
H.K. Now that is funny! But a great idea.
One way to screen out a good 90% of spammers - and all the spambots - is to have a user's first post(s) approved by the moderators before being made visible. Auto-visibility can be granted only when the new users have demonstrated that they aren't spammers.
For the rest of the inappropriate stuff that gets through, SJ can put a "report abuse" button at the end of every post.
"Mods should move all spam to the "Place your ad here thread" Quoted by Ellis B
If such a suggestion was implemented, I would like the mods to put in a disclaimer that all these posts are scams, so as to warn those that read them not to accept any offers. Remember, to protect the naive form scams is to protect the rest of us from annoyances of having to witness it.
Just use the 'report post' link!
Removeing the text, thats all well and good, but then how do we the general public, how do we know whats been removed and whats not, Yeah I hate spam to and I agree there needs to be control but if its removed under the heading SPAM how do we know it is? "Spam" may be, not remove it but just reduce the confilicting text to a one line Spam input which any user can open if he or she wishes to read. Control should not be given to out to the few sorry thats it all get screwed up and big companies move in and take over,
We need to accept the fact that spam and spammers are here for good. When money is involved, there is always some type of scam to accompany it. Then you have those bored and lonely individuals who have no life but to try to make things difficult for others. Try to ignore idiots and "buyer beware".
I am learning that you can not trust anyone. Hyperautoparts.com, we made a purchase with them n keep getting the run around. We have given them the time they request 15-20 now it's been 30 days n nothing. Emails after emails all I get is the same reply. I finally email them and told them I was going to take legal actions and got a response from them saying that the container was damage n they just got a new shipment in and they will be sending out the seats. Now No reply to emails, no one will answer the phone, or u get a voice recording, left a message for them to call over and over, and still nothing. I have file a claim with my bank, I am doing this SCRAM site n won't stop until these people are made to pay. I won't do any more business over the internet without paypal to make sure my money is cover. Don't do business with these people.
Prior to ordering anything from the Internet, I look for reviews of the dealer. If there are no reviews on a neutral site, I do not order. I even do this with free downloads to avoid viruses and malware. This is not a fool proof method but, since I have been doing this, I have not been scammed. Do not go to the company for reviews, and you can find neutral reviews by Googleing. There also must be a significan number of reviews and not just a few because scammers sometimes place excellent reviews. Good luck.
